| Conga Management Tourism and Culture is a private concern
founded in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1991 with the aim of promoting and dignifying
the work of Cuban artists in the European continent. In 1995 it incorporated
other genres and artists. Three years later, it set up a cultural tourism
agency in Cuba, whose main aim is the promotion of cultural trips to the
Island of Music. By the end of 1999, it moved to Bogotá, Colombia,
and pursued the promotion of music of the world in that country and the
rest of Latin America.
For two consecutive years, the company organized the festival Village
Tropical during the Fêtes de Genève in Switzerland. The event
was entirely devoted to world music and included 100 artists in 4 days
and 20,000 attendants each year.
In 1997, Conga Management was in charge of the music production of the
XII Festival of International Cinema in Geneva. The following year, it
organized and managed the first International Jazz Festival of Geneva.
Conga Management has also helped in the production of several CDs, such
as CUBA LATIN JAZZ for Lauda Air in 1991, and radio stations, such as
Radio Suisse Romande.
Similarly, it has produced live radio shows of various festivals, among
which there were Festival Paleo Nyon and Festival de Jazz de Montreux
in its Cuban nights, both set in Switzerland.
At present, it collaborates with Radiodifusora Nacional de Colombia in
the Cuban and world music sections of its show Son para un Sonero, hosted
by César Pagano.
On the other hand, Conga Management has also devoted its efforts to research
on Cuban music by collaborating with publications such as the French magazine
Vibrations and TV programs from France, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Its director, Silvia Domene Guevara, is a musicologist specialized in
AfroCuban and Cuban modern music. She has pursued social studies in IES
(Institut d´Etudes Sociales), Geneva, where she got her degree in
Cultural Animation. In addition, she studied Cuban Folk Music in Conjunto
Folclórico Nacional de La Habana, and Artistic Direction in UNEAC
in La Habana, Cuba.
Apart from her work as director of Conga Management, Silvia ran and was
the programming director of the night clubs Siakara and Music Promotion
Center in Geneva for four years.
In Bogotá, Colombia, she coordinated the XII and XIII Free Theater
Jazz Festival in the years 2000 and 2001 respectively.
